HISTORY  &  BACKGROUND  OF  THE  LEAGUE
The South-West Lancs League started life in the 1960's as a very popular teams of 8 league. It has boasted many fine players, most notably John Armstrong and Graham Kirby. As teams of 8 became more difficult to find, the format changed to teams of 4, and this has continued for many years now. In recent years the SWL has been run by Dave & Jackie Greasley and continues to be the friendliest league around. The league has had lots of venues, many of them pubs! Some players still bring their ale with them! The current venue is the Ditton Community Centre, Widnes (0151 423 3121), only 30 minutes from Liverpool or Birkenhead. The matches are friendly, as is the atmosphere. This is also probably the cheapest bridge you will find anywhere - ONLY £30 per team for the season and this includes all of the matches! Matches start promptly at 7.30 pm on the fourth Tuesday of the month from September to June/July (except December). Most matches tend to finish between 10.00 and 10.30 pm.
